GATHER YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR A FUN RUN (OR WALK!) ALONG THE WASHINGTON WATERFRONT AND HELP BRIDGE THE JUSTICE GAP IN EASTERN NC!

Inner Banks Legal Services is hosting our inaugural 5K in conjunction with Washington Summer Fest!
The STEPS 5K is a family-friendly event that starts at the Mac "Bear" Hodges Festival Park and travels along the Washington Waterfront through the idyllic Washington Park. Runners, walkers, strollers, and leashed 4-legged fur friends are welcome!
All proceeds from this event will go to expanding access to justice in Eastern NC through Inner Banks Legal Services.

REGISTRATION FEES.
Ages 12 & Up *
$20.00 before 05/28/2022
$25.00 between 05/28/2022 & 06/10/2022
$30 on-site/day-of
* registration fees include an adult-sized t-shirt & swag bag

BARRIERS TO JUSTICE.
Meaningful access to the courts, regardless of a person’s resources, is a fundamental promise of our justice system. Did you know that civil legal matters do not have the same guarantee of a “right to an attorney” as criminal legal matters do?
Many of our neighbors---especially those in marginalized communities---fall into the "justice gap" where they don't qualify for free legal aid but can't afford a private attorney. Many of our neighbors also face additional barriers to justice. These barriers include SCHOOL, TRANSPORTATION, EMPLOYMENT, PAYMENT, and SPEECH (STEPS!).

Each letter in STEPS represents the most common barriers to justice in our community. Participants may (or may not!) be assigned one of these common barriers, which will delay your start time up to a minute!
Think what you've got what it takes to overcome your barrier? Medals will be awarded for the top 3 finishers.

Inner Banks Legal Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm based in Washington, NC. We utilize a combination of client fees, donations, and grants to provide clients with exceptional legal services at fair and reasonable rates. Our mission is to bridge the justice gap in Eastern NC--one client at a time.
